Louis Aston Knight (1873–1948) was a French-born American artist noted for his paintings of landscapes.
This painting was a study focusing on techniques for rendering water, trees, and texture as in the roof of the cottage. Minor changes were made to my cottage as I added a trumpet vine like one that grows in my back yard. This was the first large canvas I worked on, at 24" tall x 36" wide x 1.5" deep, the size was a bit daunting at first, but I quickly adapted, and actually prefer working on larger canvases now. Wouldn't taking a visit to this quaint cottage along the river in the Normandy area of France be like taking a trip back in time. How relaxing it would be to sit for a while outside the cottage. This was a lesson in David Jansen's landscape class.
The painting is done on gallery wrap canvas, so no frame is necessary.
